PT STEAM ACADEMY

The PT STEAM Academy will inspire a passion using hands-on lessons designed to excite and engage the mind.  Our summer camps provide the opportunity for children to explore the wonders of STEAM in a friendly, curious, and exciting atmosphere.  From managing fun experiments to participating in mind-blowing activities, students will come away inspired.  Summer camps are open to all students enrolled in the Penn-Trafford School District.

Fashion Design June 5-8 6-8 PT High School
The course is designed to introduce students to the exciting world of fashion. Students will learn basic fashion design concepts. Students will design and create their own projects. The students will be introduced to basic fashion design software and learn beginner functions of the sewing machine. Al materials and supplies will be included in the cost of the course.

LEGO Robotics/K'Nex June 5-8 3-6 Harrison Park Elem
The LEGO Robots/K'Nex Academy will challenge students to think creatively using activities that require individual and team participation, creative design, and problem-solving skills.   It will teach students to lead as well as to work together to overcome challenging obstacles. All students will be introduced to basic programming software to use when designing a robot!

It's Only Rocket Science June 5-8 6-8 PT High School
How many times how you heard someone say; “It’s not rocket science.” Well this time it IS rocket science! Explore the physics of rocket flight, build model rockets, test modifications of many forms of space flight.

Computer Gaming Camp June 12-15 6-8 PT High School
Students will have an opportunity to explore a variety of software packages to create programs, games and apps. These applications will be developed by using Alice, AppInventor, Javascript, and other software resources.

Fairy Tales June 12-15 2-4 Trafford MS
Students will engage in building and engineering projects based on famous fairy tale themed problems. These activities will be designed to encourage critical thinking, scientific reasoning skills, as well as, problem solving and team work.

Environmental Camp June 19-22 5-8 Trafford MS
Students will explore the wonders of their local environments and learn about ecology through various hands-on activities and field trips. Some potential activities are: an outdoor scavenger hunt in BY Park, creating mini habitats, using microscopes to be Nature Detectives, tending to the school garden, and/or building mini greenhouses/terrariums. Students will get in touch with nature and learn the importance of being environmentally conscientious.

My Mad Scientist Lab June 26-29 1-3 Level Green Elem
Come to our Mad Scientist Lab and watch and perform your own experiments everyday! You may participate in more than one each day. Learn how much fun science can be with hands-on experiments so you can see it for yourself, not just learn it from a book.

VEX Robots & Games June 26-29 6-8 PT High School
Students will have the opportunity to learn basic RobotC programming and basic robot mechanics to compete in different robotic games. Robots will be programmed to run on their own and by remote control using problem solving skills, programming sequences, and STEM concepts.

Storm the Castle July 10-13 3-6 Trafford MS
Students will create a model castle and medieval weapons including several different catapults as time permits and engage in a game called Storm the Castle.

Krazy Contraption July 17-20 5-8 PT High School
Students will complete mini-lessons using simple machines before creating a 10 step Rube Goldberg machine.

Sports STEAM July 24-27 2-5 PT High School
STEAM Sports is a combination of math and science.   This camp incorporates relay races, obstacle courses, swimming and other sports to teach the skills of addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, geometry, and fractions.

World Traveler-Passport to Mexico! July 24-27 7-8 PT High School
Pack your bags and come with us to explore Mexico through STEAM activities! This course examines cultural aspects of Mexico like its cuisine, art and urban planning while incorporating Spanish vocabulary. It´s hands-on, the whole time, while you solve problems, create masterpieces and learn Spanish!

Payment

All payments must be paid in full by the first scheduled day of camp.  There will be no refunds after the first day of the scheduled camp.  To receive a refund, a letter must be submitted stating the name and date of the camp.

Eligibility

STEAM camps are available to PT and Non-PT Students.  There is limited seating ability.  The classes are on a first come first serve basis.  Once camp seating has been filled students will be placed on a waiting list.
